Great Tip For Keyword Research

I have been following the Thirty Day Challenge with Ed Dale and Co.
The theme this year is all about Web 2.0 to dominate your niche.
Another great thing is that all the techniques this year are free.

The first few days were all about finding a niche with keywords that have
less than 30K competing sites and with daily searches of about 80-100+.

This is a lot harder than it looks. Thanks to Mike Mindel of Wordtracker, it
is much easier now. Check out his blog.

And make sure you check out this new tool for finding great keywords with Google trends.

So, I have finally settled on two niches. Acne relief and TV on your PC.

I already have some experience with the acne market (www.acneenemy.com)
with limited success. This is a great opportunity to kind of make it work with
the Thirty Day Challenge.

I can't wait to see what tricks Ed and co. will pull out, but so far, and we are at
mid-point tomorrow it's been a very good learning experience for me.

It is probably too late to jump in the competition, but you can certainly get a
few tips that will be helpful.

How I Drive Traffic To My Web Site

I can drive traffic to my web site using
some simple but effective methods.
Here are a few tips that will help you
achieve a good amount of traffic.

How well you know your market
and what words
they use is of great value
to drive traffic to my web site.

My objective at this point is to find
what are the words they use to get
to my web site.

For example, Let's say I have a lawn care web site.
I would go to those two free research tools

adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal

freekeywords.wordtracker.com

I would type in 'lawn care' to see what
words are used
for lawn care advice
to drive traffic to my web site.

Now, I would note only the keyword phrases
that relate only to what my web site information offers. the content I have on my web site.
For example, if I don't have any tips on
organic lawn care, I wouldn't take note any
keyword phrases that include the word 'organic'.

The long phrases like 'tips for lawn care advice' are
very targeted. That is going to be useful for
pay-per-click (or PPC) advertising to
drive traffic to my web site.

PPC ads are displayed on the search engines
results pages. You see them on the right side of any
result page. Each time you click on an ad, the
web site owner who placed that ad pays the search engine
anywhere from 1 cent to tens of dollars depending on the
popularity of the keywords.

Google has 'adwords' (adwords.google.com)

YAHOO! has 'searchmarketing'(searchmarketing.yahoo.com)

MSN has 'adcenter' (adcenter.microsoft.com)

PPC is the fastest way to drive traffic to my web site.
I can write an ad in 'adwords' and have it displayed
in a couple of hours. Of course, it depends on the
popularity of the keywords I chose to drive traffic to my
web site. To find out, use the keyword popularity tool
on the sites I just gave you.

A warning here. These PPC campaigns are not
'set it and forget it'. First, I make sure I put a limit
amount for daily budget (I usually put $10 dollars at first).
Second, I monitor the performance of my ads to see
which ones are getting clicked. I always have at least
two concurrent ads being displayed for each campaign.
That way I can make changes to beat my best performing ads to
get more clicks to drive traffic to my web site.

This is a very fast way to drive traffic to my web site in a very short time.

5 Keyword Research Tips

An important part of any online business is doing keyword research and rounding up a list of important keywords to attract surfers to your site (think SEO). Whether it is for your pay-per-click campaigns or for creating content pages for your site, these keyword research tips will help you find targeted keywords.

Step 1 - Brainstorm
You should make a list of all the obvious keywords that come to mind. Don't limit yourself and get all the related terms in on big list. For example, if I was doing a weight loss site, I would start with the obvious ones like;

weight loss
diet
losing fat
exercise
healthy eating

Step 2 - Check the competition.
With the list I just made, I would try each of them in search engines and notice the top ten sites that come up in the results. I would then check the keyword meta tag in the HTML source code. I would note every keyword and write them on my list. This is an important keyword research tip. Your are taking notice of your competition in order to beat them right?

Step 3 - Keyword list drill down.
You now have a list to work with. It is now time to expand your search. Check out http://freekeywords.wordtracker.com/ and use this tool to see how many searches every day there are for your keywords and note every related keywords that get at least 10 searches a day. You can also use Google keyword research tool. List every misspelled keywords also.

Step 4 - Sizing up the competition.
You should have hundreds if not thousands of keywords on your list by now. Make sure you clean up your list for non-related terms. For example, If my weight loss site doesn't have anything to do with Atkins diet, ditch any keywords that include "Atkins".

Use Google to see how many competing sites you have for
your keywords. Just use quotes around your keywords to see how many phrase match you get. Notice how many competing results you get.

Step 5 - Prioritizing
Your should now concentrate on using the keywords with less than 15000 competing results. Use those in your articles, content web pages, etc.

Using software for keyword research will save you a lot of time.

Use every keyword that will bring you the most targeted visitors. After all this work, your keyword research tips will put you ahead in the search engines ranking.
